DUI stats for the week of February 18-24, 2013

During the week of February 18, 2013, through February 24, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 38 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 185 DUI arrests compared with 217 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 193 major accidents so far this year compared with 229 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.7 percent.

So far this year, there were eight traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with four during the same period last year, an increase of 100 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
