HPA welcomes members to Board of Trustees

Allison Holt Gendreau (Oahu), Hannah Kihalani Springer (North Kona), and Chatt G. Wright (Oahu) have been appointed to the board of trustees at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA).

Laurie T. Ainslie, chairman, announced the appointments after the board’s recent meeting in Waimea.

Gendreau, the parent of an alumnus, is based on Oahu where she is president/publisher of Ku Paa Publishing and president of the Hawaii Book Publishers Association.

She brings extensive board experience to the school and currently serves on the boards of the Bishop Museum, Contemporary Museum, and Islander Group.

She previously served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club, Booklines of Hawaii, and the Madge Tennent Foundation.

Springer is a kamaaina of Kaupulehu in North Kona. She is a lifelong student of the natural and cultural histories of Hawaii and has served the local community in a variety of elected, appointed, professional, and volunteer positions with a focus on resources management, cultural practice, and education.

Wright, a resident of Oahu, joined Hawaii Pacific College in 1972 as the founding dean of the College of Business Administration.

In 1976, Wright was named president of the college, now known as Hawaii Pacific University.

Under his leadership, the school grew to be the largest private university in Hawaii.

Wright, who retired in June 2011, also serves as chairman of the Oceanic Institute at Makapuu Point.

He previously served as president and chief executive officer of the Queen’s Health Systems and has been active on numerous community and advisory boards.

Other members of the HPA board are Dr. Michael Chun, Putman D. Clark, Michael K. Fujimoto, Will J. Hancock, Nona F. Hasegawa, Charles G. King, Duncan MacNaughton, Jake J. Mizuno, Gregory R. Mooers, David W. Pratt, William D. Pratt, Robert L. Reed, Michael S. Spalding, Donna Tanoue, Dr. Peter Vitousek, Roy A. Vitousek III, and Harry M. von Holt.
