THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS EXTENDED THE

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE ISLAND OF MOLOKAI IN MAUI COUNTY

* UNTIL 700 AM HST

* AT 346 AM HST…RADAR SHOWED PERSISTENT HEAVY RAIN CONTINUING NORTH OF KAMALO ON THE EASTERN TIP OF MOLOKAI…WITH RADAR ESTIMATED RAINFALL RATES IN EXCESS OF 1 INCH PER HOUR ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE AREA OF HEAVY RAIN WAS NEARLY STATIONARY.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE ADVISORY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO HALAWA VALLEY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS…DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING.

RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING…REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION.

DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS…INCLUDING MOLOKAI UNTIL 600 PM HST TODAY.

THIS ADVISORY MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED BEYOND 700 AM HST IF HEAVY RAIN PERSISTS.
