Presidential inauguration celebration in Pahoa

MEDIA RELEASE

The inauguration of President Barack Obama will be celebrated in an Inaugural Ball at Akebono Theater, Pahoa. The celebration is set for 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Seven bands including Dave Seawater & Friends will provide music to break in the theater’s newly refinished dance floor. Celebrants are invited to dress as their favorite American historical figure but the costume contest is strictly voluntary. Otherwise, dress is “Puna chic.”

Jasper Moore will emcee the event, which is a fundraiser for the 4th District, Hawaii County Democratic Party. Tickets are $15 and will include complimentary pupus and door prizes. A no-host bar will be provided by Luquin’s Mexican Restaurant. A video feed will also provide highlights of the inaugural events taking place in Washington D.C.

The rundown of bands includes: Kaliko Guyz, Fields of Fire, Dave Seawater & Friends, Jasmine Miranda Crowe, The Horny Toads, IBIS, and Jesse Seymour’s Samba Band.

Pick up inaugural ball tickets at CD Wizard in Hilo, Keaau Natural Foods in Keaau, Puna Battery and Propane Shop in Pahoa, Kinoole Street Farmers Market on Saturday or Makuu Market on Sunday, or by calling 965-8002 or 965-8945.
