Police DUI stats for the week of May 30-June 5, 2016

During the week of May 30, 2016, through June 5, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 484 DUI arrests compared with 440 during the same period last year, an increase of 10 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 630 major accidents so far this year compared with 661 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been nine fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 10 fatalities, compared with eight fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 11 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 12.5 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 9.1 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
