Brushfire burns near Kawaihae Road Tuesday afternoon (April 14)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:06 p.m. alarm Tuesday (April 14) to a brushfire between the 64 and 65 mile markers of Kawaihae Road (Hwy 19).

Crews arrived to find a five acre fire burning brush and grass on the Waikoloa side of Kawaihae Road with winds blowing from the west at 10-15 mph. One lane was closed to traffic as firefighting units were at the scene. The fire burned eight acres and was declared under control at 4:17 p.m.

Three figherfighters are monitoring the fire area during the night in case of a flare-up. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
