Ultimate super horse challenge for junior riders

MEDIA RELEASE

Charles Wilhelm’s Ultimate Super Horse Challenge for junior riders is a clinic and competition for ages 12 – 18 that tests the communication between horse and rider, horsemanship and riding skills at the walk, trot and lope. The event, slated for August 2-3 at the Parker Ranch Arena in Kamuela, is the first-ever competition of its kind to be held in Hawaii.

What is a Super Horse? According to America’s most respected horse trainer, author and television host Charles Wilhelm, “A Super Horse can do extra-ordinary things over and above the everyday challenge. In fact, a Super Horse can do a parade one day and work cows the next. I’m excited to see how Hawaii’s young riders and their horses perform.”

The Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge is suitable for young riders of any discipline and horses of all breeds. A minimum of 15 and maximum of 30 horse and rider teams will participate in the competition. As the horse and rider work through each event, they will be judged on several criteria and overall performance. The top five horse and rider teams will advance to the finale on Sunday afternoon, August 3.

“Junior riders across the state of Hawaii are encouraged to apply to the Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge,” said Tom Richmond, Hawaii District High School Rodeo Association. “We’ve got terrific talent in Hawaii and this is an opportunity to test riders and horses at their finest. The experience gained will be well worth it.”

Extensive prizes, including a $1,000 grant donated by Hawaii Horse Expo, will be presented.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the Hawaii District High School Rodeo Association to present the Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge here at Parker Ranch Arena on the Big Island,” added Nancy Jones, Hawaii Horse Expo Producer. “All too often Hawaii’s talented young riders miss out on competitive events held on the mainland due to the expense. This two-day event will allow them to compete right here in Hawaii. “

Entry forms, rules, fees, schedules, waivers, prize list and additional details on the entry process are available for download at HawaiiHorseExpo.com or CharlesWilhelm.com.

Interested riders may also call Tom Richmond at 808-989-1940 or Deedee Keakealani Bertelmann at 808-936-9864 for more information.

Proceeds from Hawaii Horse Expo (HHE) benefit the Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the island. HHE has garnered considerable attention for attracting world-renowned equine experts who travel from across the mainland U.S. to share their knowledge and skills.
