Civil Defense siren testing August 22-23, 2019

The Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), together with the Hawai’i County Civil Defense Agency, will conduct siren testing at the following locations and times on Thursday and Friday, August 22 and 23, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Wireless Emergency Alert System notifications appear on WEA capable cellphones.

Nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergecy Alert today (Oct 3)

The WEA portion of the test commences at 8:18 a.m. HST and the EAS portion follows at 8:20 a.m. HST. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether technological improvements are needed.

PGV plant performing tests this afternoon

Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) will be pressure testing one of the plant’s safety valves with nitrogen and only nitrogen. Nearby residents may hear the valve opening and releasing the nitrogen several times until about 1:45 p.m. This is a routine testing procedure.
