To accommodate large volumes of rubbish normally disposed of on the day after Christmas and New Year’s, all County of Hawai‘i solid waste recycling and transfer stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 26 and Saturday, January 2.

These special hours will apply to these two days only, and normal Saturday hours will resume on Saturday, January 9, 2010. All other solid waste rules and regulations apply.

The Hawai’i County Department of Environmental Management will be reducing the operating hours and days at County Solid Waste Recycling and Transfer Stations (a.k.a. Solid Waste Transfer Stations). This change will also apply to the operating hours and days for associated onsite HI-5 Beverage Container Redemption Centers and Reuse Centers. The new hours and days of operation are provided in the table below and will take effect on December 1, 2009.

This change will also apply to the operating hours and days for associated onsite Recycling Centers, Reuse Centers and HI-5 Redemption Centers.

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee invites the public to comment on the draft County of Hawai`i Integrated Resources and Solid Waste Management Plan Update, The Path to Zero Waste (IRSWMP Update).

The IRSWMP Update is available for review at http://www.hawaii-county.com/env_mng/iswmp.htm. A 60-day review period for the IRSWMP Update was begun on September 1, 2009, and all comments received by October 30, 2009, will receive full consideration.
