The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for East Hawaii until 6 a.m. Monday (May 23).

Surf heights of six to eight feet are forecast with rough and choppy surf conditions. Beach goers are advised to beware of rip currents and localized beach erosion.

A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect until 6 p.m. Monday (May 23) for the Kaiwi Channel, Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel and Alehuihaha Channel and waters southeast of the Big Island.

The next significant north northwest swell is expected to arrive Wednesday...generated by a storm presently over the central Aleutian Islands. Surf produced by this swell will likely reach the high surf advisory thresholds along north and west facing shores of some of the smaller islands Wednesday evening and Thursday.
