The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for the west facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. this evening.

Surf along west facing shores of Hawaii Island are forecst to be in the 10-12 foot range.

Hawaii County Ocean Safety Officials and parks personnel are reporting high surf and hazardous conditions at some beach parks in the Kailua-Kona area. Peak surf conditions may coincide with the high tides at 10:40 a.m. this morning and 11:15 p.m. tonight.

Surf is forecast to be in the 8-11 foot range along east facing shores of Hawaii Island.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don't go out.

A low pressure storm system that tracked through the Aleutian Islands earlier in the week has sent a large north-northwest swell that will begin to arrive this evening.
