Fire/rescue crews responded to a 5:01 alarm Monday (July 18) to Hakalau Beach Park for seven swimmers swept into the ocean in a flash flood of Hakalau Stream.

Crews were unable to locate victims from shore. The Fire Department Chopper One was able to locate the victims in deep water and deployed two rescue swimmers. The victims and crew were airlifted back to shore. Nobody required medical attention.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:50 p.m. alarm Saturday (Jan 23) to Kilauea Iki Crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for an injured hiker.

A 54 year-old woman was hiking with her daughter across the floor of Kilauea Iki Crater then wandered about 50 feet off the trail. The woman lost her balance on some rocks, flipped backwards onto her head and back. The woman received multiple cuts and abrasions to her arms and legs.

At 12:33 p.m. Saturday (Jan 16) Rescue crews responded to the 'End of the World' shoreline area near Alii Drive in Keauhou after two people were swept into the ocean.

A group of young adults were sitting in a tidepool when a large wave enveloped the group and pulled a 19-year-old man and 19-year-old woman across the rocky shoreline into the ocean. The man made his way through the high surf to get back to shore, the woman could not get ashore.

A witness saw the fisherman swept off the shoreline cliff by high surf conditions. The man was last seen in the water about 50 meters off shore.

Rescue crews spent a second day Tuesday (Sept 15) at Wailuku River Boiling Pots State Park in search of a missing swimmer.

The 62-year-old woman was last seen at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Sept 14) in the upper pond area of the Boiling Pots floating on an inflatable tube. The woman fell off and was unable to make it to the river bank.

Rescue crews from Honokaa arrived to find 14 people in two separate groups from an ATV tour stranded on the opposite side of a flash flood which blocked their exit from the trail system.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:10 p.m. alarm Thursday (July 23) to Piihonua Bridge to rescue two injured people in a pond at the base of a waterfall.

Crews found a male and female below the falls at the edge of the whitewater who could not get out due to their injuries. The pair were injured in the rapidly moving water by the falls.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:23 p.m. alarm Wednesday (April 22) to the open ocean about 400 yards off Honolii Beach Park for a pair sailors in distress.

Rescuers found two females, who are visitors to the Big Island, sitting on the hull of an overturned 14-foot sailboat.

Using a Billy Pugh net Chopper One was able to airlift the visitors to shore for later transport to Hilo Medical Center to be checked-out.
