Approximately 31,660 acres of the 333,308-acre park are closed. Most of the park remains open, including Jaggar Museum, Nāhuku (Thurston Lava Tube), Mauna Loa Road and much more.

Quake of 5.0 magnitude rattles Hawaii Island Thursday morning (May 3)

At 10:31 a.m. Thursday (May 3) a moderate 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook Hawaii Island. The temblor was centered in the area south of Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō Crater. There is no tsunami generated from this temblor.
