Police DUI stats for the year 2018

There were 163 drivers arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant who were involved in traffic accidents in 2018, compared with 220 in 2017, a decrease of 25.9 percent.

Hilo man dies in police custody after motorcycle crash

A 63-year-old Hilo man died Sunday morning, (January 6), after being in police custody. Responding to a 3:10 p.m. motorcycle crash Saturday, (January 5), Hilo patrol officers determined that the driver of 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling west on Makaʻala Street rear-ended a Toyota sedan and was thrown from the motorcycle.

Police are searching for a woman reported missing

Police are searching for Carmen Walker-Torres, a 24-year-old woman described as part-Hawaiian. Walker-Torres is 4 feet, 6 inches tall, about 105 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Walker-Torres was last seen in the Pahoa area on Saturday (Jan 5). Police and family members are concerned about her welfare.

Police DUI stats for the week of December 24-30, 2018

During the week of December 24,  through December  30, 2018, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested nineteen, (19), motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of age of 21.
