Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a female visitor from California who apparently drowned Tuesday (September 6) at 4 p.m. in waters at Pohoiki Beach.

The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Nancy Peacock of Martinez, California.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police charge Pahoa man in Pohoiki stabbing

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged the Pāhoa man who was arrested last week following a stabbing in Pohoiki. At 6 p.m. Friday (October 9), 61-year-old Boris Ivanovich Vereshak (previously identified as Boris Yarmolyk) was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $10,000.
