Credit Union robbery suspect is released by police

Hawaiʻi Island police have released the suspect who was arrested Thursday in connection with a robbery at the Hāmākua Coast Community Federal Credit Union in Pepeʻekeo. After conferring with prosecutors, detectives released 37-year-old Kris R. Villasista of Honomū at 11:20 a.m. Saturday (June 1) pending further investigation.

Credit union robbery suspect is arrested

Fire burns Pepeekeo home Saturday morning (March 30)

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:09 a.m. alarm Saturday (March 30) to 28-0530 Kulaimano Road in Pepeekeo for a structure fire. Two back bedrooms of the single-story home were heavily damaged by fire which crews had under control by 8:30 a.m. and declared out at 8:45 a.m.

Over 6,500 HELCO customers lose power after Hawi wind farm trips offline Saturday (Jan 5)

At 7:10 a.m. this morning, Hawi Renewable Development Wind Farm tripped offline, causing power interruptions to approximately 6,542 customers in Pepeekeo, South Point, and various parts of Kona. Additional HELCO generation was started and service to all customers was restored within 3 minutes. The cause of the interruption is still under investigation.

Today at 10:00 a.m. (September 12, 2012) after conferring with prosecutors, Ralph Curtis Riveira, 54, of no permanent address, was charged for one count of first degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling. Bail for Riveira was set at $5,000.00 and he is scheduled to make his initial court appearance this afternoon.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a 3:09 p.m. report Saturday (August 25) and learned that 37-year-old Ian Tengan of Hilo had been fishing at the water’s edge in an area known as “23 Flats” in Honomu, when he disappeared. Police officers and Fire Department personnel located him face down in the surf.

Curtis Huffman of Wessington Springs, South Dakota won the Big Island International Marathon with a time of 2:39:31 while Mai Fujisawa of Japan captured the women’s top spot with a time of 3:07:25.
