Mail for Kilauea Eruption evacuees being held at Pahoa Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service announced an adjustment to its delivery services in response to the eruption of lava from volcanic vents in the Puna region of Hawaii island. The eruption resulted in the mandatory evacuation of residents and the complete shutdown of access to the neighborhoods in the area of the vents.

Pahoa Pool closed to recreational activities as evacuee shelter uses showers and restrooms

All recreational activities at the Pahoa Pool are canceled until further notice. This facility is being used as a hygiene station for evacuees from the eruption event in Puna. The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks you for your cooperation and kokua.

Red Cross shelters open in Pahoa and Keaau for Kilauea eruption evacuees

The Red Cross recommends that people prepare their emergency kits for 14 days and bring their emergency supplies with them to shelters. Full details about what the kit should contain are available at www.redcross.org/hawaii (see Programs and Services/Disaster Preparedness).
