Firefighters were still on the scene at the Pahala brushfires Saturday (June 23). The 400 acre ‘Cane Haul Road’ fire above Pahala town is 95 percent contained and firefighers are extinguishing hot spots while maintaining the perimeter around the fire area.

Firefighters continue work Friday (June 22) at containing a pair of brushfires in Pahala which have consumed thousands of acres. The ‘Cane Haul Road’ fire above Pahala town is 95 percent contained and is under control. Firefightes are monitoring and putting down hotspots and maintaining the perimeter of the 400 acre fire area.

The ‘Cane Haul Road Fire’ area along Alii Springs Road and Higashi Camp Road is 95 percent contained. The ‘Highway 11 Fire’ area has not yet been contained and is in mixed brush mauka of the highway and a Macadamia Nut orchard with pastureland makai of the highway.

As of Tuesday afternoon (June 19) the two brushfire areas near Pahala have burned about 2,300 acres. Highway 11 is closed at the 46 mile marker, motorists should avoid driving in the area.
