A 17-year-old Paʻauilo boy died Friday (September 7) from injuries he received in a motor vehicle/pedestrian crash at the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 19) and Paʻauilo Makai Road in the Hamakua District.

The victim was identified as John DeLuz, of a Paʻauilo address.

Hāmākua Patrol officers responded to a call for service on Tuesday (November 1) where there was a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Pikake Street in Honokaʻa. Upon arrival, officers observed a verbal dispute between Victorino and another man. Victorino was observed operating a late-model Toyota pickup truck, which struck a fence fronting the house and almost struck three bystanders.

The County of Hawai`i is inviting farmers, ranchers and other interested applicants to bid on long-term leases for 718 acres of county-owned lands at Pa`auilo.

The 16 parcels of land range from less than 13 acres to nearly 110 acres, and are available for 10-year leases. The minimum rental price will be $11.63 per acre per year, which is based on an outside market appraisal of the land.

A blessing for the Pa‘auilo Community Center will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, sponsored by the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation.
 
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the blessing by Larry Ignacio will take place at 9:30 a.m.

Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi and County Parks Director Bob Fitzgerald are expected to attend.  Paauilo Parks and Recreation Department employees from past years will be recognized. Entertainment and lunch will be provided. The public is invited.

A 88-year-old woman from Pa‘auilo died Wednesday (June 2) from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash which occurred on May 19, 2010 at the intersection of Route 19 and Papalele Street in Kalopa.

The victim was identified as Beatrice Yago of a Pa‘auilo address.

A 66-year-old Pa'auilo man died Sunday (May 2) from injuries he sustained in a farm tractor crash in Pa'auilo Mauka in the Hāmākua District.

The victim was identified as Hamlet Barry of a Pa'auilo address.

Responding to a 7:42 p.m. call, Hāmākua patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a farm tractor on his property when it apparently flipped over, pinning him underneath.
