5,309 HELCO customers lose power in Puna and Waiakea Monday (March 25)

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) has announced that at 11:08 a.m. Monday (March 25), approximately 5,309 customers in the Puna and Waiakea areas experienced a momentary interruption when a transmission line unexpectedly tripped off line. The cause of the interruption is under investigation.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights delayed due to internet outage

A Sprint fiber network cable severed in the Seattle area significantly delayed Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights today. Sprint provides the airlines with connectivity to SABRE, the system the carriers use for reservations, to check in passengers and to purchase tickets.

AT&T Wireless has confirmed to Hawaii 24/7 that a large area in Kailua-Kona is without cellphone service. We've had a report of service being out since at least 3 p.m. Thursday (Dec   15). AT&T Wireless reports that they were made aware of the outage at 4:05 p.m.

A power outage affecting the Hawi area of North Kohala is scheduled for Wednesday night, November 30, from 11:00 p.m. to approximately 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

HELCO recommends unplugging any sensitive equipment prior to the power interruption. If there are any critical medical needs, other arrangements should be made.

Crews will be making emergency repairs to the Waimea substation at this time.
