A 32-year-old Utah woman died Monday (October 8) from a motorcycle crash in the area of Akoni Pule Highway at the 28-mile marker.

A 35-year-old Utah man was operating a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling northwest on Akoni Pule Highway with his wife riding on the back, when he swerved to avoid a car that crossed the centerline into his lane.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:12 a.m. alarm Saturday (Dec 3) to a crash on the Akoni Pule Highway near the nine mile-marker. Rescue personnel found a 25 year-old man dead, still in the vehicle and wearing a seatbelt.

Fire dispatch reports that the vehicle had been travelling North on the highway, then drifted across the centerline and off the makai side of the road.

A power outage affecting the Hawi area of North Kohala is scheduled for Wednesday night, November 30, from 11:00 p.m. to approximately 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

HELCO recommends unplugging any sensitive equipment prior to the power interruption. If there are any critical medical needs, other arrangements should be made.

Crews found a home on Union Mill Road engulfed in flames. Occupants of the home escaped the fire and gathered at a pre-designated meeting place.

A North Kohala man has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking and other offenses. On Friday (April 1), officers from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant at the Kapa'au home of 58-year-old Kenneth Tomomitsu. Officers recovered 94.7 grams of packaged methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia, including digital scales and associated paraphernalia.
