Police reclassify Kona case as murder-suicide

Hawaiʻi Island police are reclassifying a coroner’s inquest investigation to a murder and a suicide. On August 3, 2018, police responded to an apartment complex on the 75-6000 block of Aliʻi Drive in Kailua-Kona. Officers found the lifeless bodies of a male and female within the second-floor unit. A firearm was also located.

Police classify death of Kona boy as a homicide

On Tuesday, (November 6), an autopsy was performed on the 6-year-old who died on, (October 31), in Kona. Autopsy results reveal the cause of death involved trauma. The manner of death is a homicide. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Division are continuing their investigation into this death.

Three charged after being arrested following South Point gunfight

The three individuals initially arrested for Hindering Prosecution on Friday, (July 20), have been charged. Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued to investigate the incident on South Point Road in Ka’ū during which wanted fugitive Justin Waiki shot and injured a Hawaiʻi Police Department Special Response Team Sergeant.
