Former Hawaii County Mayor Herbert Tatsuo Matayoshi, 82 passed away on July 11, 2011 at Straub Clinic & Hospital. He was born on November 21, 1928 in Hilo, Hawaii. He was first elected as a supervisor to the County of Hawaii in 1962, and continued as a county councilman from 1968 until he was elected as Mayor. He was the Mayor of Hawaii County from 1974 through 1984.

County of Hawaii Mayor Billy Kenoi will present a State of the County address at two locations on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.

The Mayor will deliver the address in the pavilion of the new West Hawaii Civic Center in Kona at 10 a.m.

The Mayor will also deliver the address again at 5:30 p.m. at the Aupuni Center Conference Room in Hilo.

The Hilo address will be broadcast live on radio station KPUA 670 AM.

The public is invited. Seating is limited.

Mayor Billy Kenoi released his business travel and expense records today for the first year of his administration.

The mayor’s work with the Hawai‘i Conference of Mayors comprised the bulk of expenses in the report. Mayor Kenoi also traveled to the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in January 2009, and visited tourism industry leaders in Japan with the Hawai‘i Travel Authority in October.
