Mayor Kim suspends several county laws to allow for temporary emergency shelters

On May 30, 2018, Mayor Harry Kim issued his Second Supplementary Emergency Proclamation that suspended a number of county laws relating to building, land use and other related laws, in order to facilitate the establishment of temporary emergency shelters on specific sites approved by the County, and independently supported by private organizations.

An emergency rule imposed Thursday (May 31) restricts access to the area containing Kapoho Vacationland, and Kapoho Farm Lots, which is Kaphoho-Kumukahi Lighthouse Road, Kapoho Kai Road, Kalapana Road (Highway 137), and the ocean, and which is also shown as the area the map.

Mayor Kim diagnosed with walking pneumonia

In the interest of avoiding misinformation or rumors about his health, Mayor Harry Kim wants it made known that he is being treated for walking pneumonia, and is awaiting the results of medical tests, Managing Director Wil Okabe said. The Mayor is taking antibiotics to the address the symptoms, Okabe said.
