State Department of Transportation preparing alternate route for Puna motorists

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is working with the County of Hawaii to prepare an alternative route in Puna should Keaau-Pahoa Road (Highway 130) be cut off by the Kilauea Volcano East Rift Zone Eruption.

Downtown Hilo Post Office and Federal Building

Hilo Downtown Post Office reopens, Puna eruption evacuees pick up mail at Pahoa Post Office

USPS announced today that the Hilo Downtown Post Office has reopened for business. The postal facility, located in the Hilo Federal Building at 154 Waianuenue Avenue, had been closed on May 4 when the federal building was evacuated due to structural concerns in the wake of the earthquakes that have accompanied the eruption.

Kilauea Eruption: More fissures erupt in Leilani Estates, at least 26 homes lost as of Sunday (May 6)

Since the onset of this eruption, a total of 10 fissures have emerged, and at least 26 homes have been destroyed as of May 6, 2018.
