Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of using a stolen credit card. A 63-year-old man reported that a credit card and other items were stolen from his vehicle near Kapoho Beach in Puna sometime between 11 p.m. September 30 and 7:30 a.m. October 1.

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) management employees faced several weather-related challenges as rains hit the island over the weekend. On Saturday, a lightning strike in Ocean View Estates damaged a transformer. Employees replaced the transformer and restored power by 7:30p.m. A handful of customers were affected.

Update: Pahoa to Kapoho Rd is was closed between Nanawale Blvd and Lava Tree State Monument Park due to a tree falling on the roadway. Pahoa-Kapoho Road (Hwy 132) now has one lane open to traffic. It will take approximately 30-minutes (11:45 a.m.) for both lanes to be opened.

Big Island police are investigating the destruction of thousands of dollars worth of papaya trees in Puna. At 10:33 a.m. Wednesday (June 30), Puna District officers responded to a report of papaya trees damaged at a farm in Kapoho. The scene is located off Route 132, left on Alohalani, two miles in on the left.
