Army officials are opening several training areas for bird hunting, here, Jan. 16 through 18. The Humu’ula Unit (training areas 1-4) and Ahi Unit (training areas 9, 12-16, and portion of 18) will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Beginning this weekend, new check-in stations will be used for all hunting activity here, and are intended to make the check-in/check-out process more convenient and accessible to hunters traveling from Hilo, Kona and Waimea.

Hunting will be closed, here, for approximately three weeks due to military training. Army officials anticipate resuming hunting Nov. 7-8, pending training area availability.
