Fire/rescue units responded to a 5:43 alarm Sunday (Jan 29) to a structure fire on Lehua Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Firefighters found a 10x30 foot structure collapsed and engulfed in flames. Crews had difficulty accessing the fire scene due to terrain and had the fire under control at 6:30 p.m. and out at 6:50 p.m.

Big Island police are investigating a shooting Wednesday night (June 8) in Ka'Å«.

At 8 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report that six shots had been fired from a passing vehicle at a 44-year-old man outside his Aloha Boulevard home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

Police initially classified the case as reckless endangering. After further investigation, detectives are reclassifying the case to attempted murder.

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) management employees faced several weather-related challenges as rains hit the island over the weekend.

On Saturday, a lightning strike in Ocean View Estates damaged a transformer. Employees replaced the transformer and restored power by 7:30p.m. A handful of customers were affected.

The County of Hawai`i's rubbish drop-off site at Kahuku Park in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates will be closed for New Year’s Day on Saturday, January 1, 2011.

We respectfully ask your kokua on this holiday.  The site will be locked so please do not illegally dump or litter around the closed facility.

The site will open the day after the holiday, January 2, 2011 and will resume the normal Saturday operation beginning January 8, 2011.

Four people were arrested Monday (July 12) for marijuana offenses at a Hawaiian Ocean View Estates home in Ka'u.

At 10:35 a.m., officers from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant at a Moana Drive address. Two men, 46-year-old Robin Bartz, and 60-year-old Willaim Cool and two women, 46 year-old Pearl Muraki and 18 year-old Amber Bartz, were taken into custody without incident.

Big Island detectives have charged a 34-year-old man who was shot by a homeowner after breaking into a Ka'Å« home Thursday (November 19).

His identity, previously reported as Justin Michaels, has been confirmed as Richard Justin McNeely. He was charged Saturday (November 21) with first-degree burglary, first-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling, phone ripping and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.
