A Hōnaunau woman was arrested Monday (August 1) after she allegedly tried to run her ex-boyfriend's pickup truck off the road in Kailua-Kona.

At 6:15 p.m. Monday, police received a report of what was described initially as a road rage incident on Palani Road.

A 36-year-old Hōnaunau man was killed Monday (June 27) from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle crash at Keahole International Airport in Kailua-Kona.

The victim was identified as Newton K. Leslie of a Honaunau address.

An unidentified man was killed Friday (June 10) from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle/pedestrian crash on the Hawai'i Belt Road (Route 11) .3 miles south of the 108-mile marker in Captain Cook, South Kona.

Responding to an 8:13 p.m. call, Kona patrol and Traffic Enforcement Unit officers determined that the victim was walking north on the east side (mauka) shoulder of the road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north.

The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.

A South Kona man has been arrested and charged with two crimes in connection with a domestic dispute and discharging a firearm. Around 7 a.m. Thursday (April 7), Kona patrol officers responded to a report of abuse in progress on Painted Church Road in Honaunau. Big Island police have arrested a 21-year-old Hōnaunau man for a vehicle break in and an unrelated burglary on Tuesday (August 10).

Big Island police have arrested a suspect in the July 7 assault of a 50-year-old Captain Cook man on Painted Church Road in South Kona.



Twenty-one-year-old Drosstain Edward Pua of Kona was arrested Monday morning (July 12)and charged Monday afternoon with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and violating terms of release on bail.

Big Island police have released a Honoka'a woman who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, terroristic threatening and assault. After conferring with prosecutors, police released 35-year-old Kuulei Aloha Ancheta at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday (June 15) pending further investigation.

Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

Updated: Police release Honokaa woman in kidnapping case

Big Island police have released a Honoka’a woman who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, terroristic threatening and assault. A 23-year-old Captain Cook woman apparently drowned while swimming in waters off Ke'ei Beach in Captain Cook on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Karly A. Kojimoto.

Kona patrol officers responded to a 6 p.m. report of a possible drowning and learned that bystanders had heard the victim calling for help, towed her to shore and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
