Humane Society in Keaau Lava Request Hotline to reduce hours of operation

With the lull in lava activity, the Hawaii Island Humane Society is reducing the Lava Request Hotline (808-498-9475) hours to 8 a.m. to 12 noon from Monday through Friday. Should lava activity cease, the Lava Request Hotline will close down operations on Friday, September 14.

Hawaii Island Humane Society receives disaster grant for Kilauea Eruption work

Animal rescue task force formed for Kilauea eruption

A community meeting was convened this past Saturday by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Hawaii Island Humane Society (HIHS) to discuss initiating an independent assessment of the areas affected by the eruption and ways to improve communication among the various parties including residents, rescue organizations and government entities.

The Hawaii Island Humane Society has received their first shipment of the 2010 Pets in Paradise Calendar in plenty of time for holiday gift giving.

The colorful, glossy calendar features two cover models, twelve monthly pin-up pets, and vignettes throughout that include every entry that was received.
