Wind Advisory issued for Kohala District Thursday (Jan 31)

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the Districts of North and South Kohala on Hawaii Island. This Wind Advisory means sustained winds of 20-35 mph with gusts over 50 mph are forecasted.

Monthly Civil Defense siren test canceled for December 2018

The State’s monthly test of the Statewide Outdoor Warning Siren System, which would typically occur on MONDAY, December 3, 2018, at 11:45 a.m. has been suspended for the month of December ONLY. No test will take place at that time, and the statewide test has not been rescheduled for a different time.

UPDATE: Water main break forces closure of Waiakeawaena Elementary School Thursday (Oct 18)

The Department of Water Supply reports that repairs are complete for the water line break in Waiakea and the system is refilling. Customers may notice air in the system and milky appearance that will clear as the system returns to normal. The water is safe and crews will continue to monitor the system.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) reports that yesterday afternoon and early evening, spattering was observed in the fissure 8 cone. It is common for eruptions to go through periods of diminished output, or to pause completely, only to reactivate days, weeks, or even months later.
