Corey Kozuma’s steady play has moved the freshman a stroke behind first place at the NCAA Division II Golf Championship on the Robert Trent Jones – The Shoals Fighting Joe Course in Florence, Ala.

After starting the day with a pair of bogeys, Kozuma went 4-under-par the rest of the way to turn in a 2-under-par 70 and sit at 2-under-par 142 after two rounds.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo golf team is in Florence, Ala. for the 2011 NCAA Division II Golf Championships held on the Robert Trent Jones – The Shoals Fighting Joe Course, Monday, May 16 – Friday, May 20.

There will be 108 total participants among the 20 teams competing in the tournament representing 14 different states including eight individual qualifiers challenging the 7,126-yard, par-72 course.

Behind Blake Snyder's championship play, the University of Hawaii at Hilo won the 2011 Hawaiian Airline Pacific West Conference Golf Championship at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
 
The freshman from Seattle, Wash. was the only player for finish below par and won by three strokes over BYU-Hawaii's Jon Scolari. Snyder turned in rounds of 68, 70 and 75 to finish at 3-under-par 213 on the 6,875-yard course.

Blake Snyder led the way with a 11-over-par 227 with rounds of 77-79-71 on the par-3, 6782-yard course. Neil Cabico was tied for 17th place three strokes back at 230 (77-78-75) while Travis Russell was tied in 27 place at 233 (77-78-78). Chris Shimomura finished in 46th place at 241 (83-81-77). Corey Kozuma was unable to play the first two rounds and fired an83 in the third round.

A northern front produced colder weather and stronger winds in the final round of the Lady Rattler Roundup as the University of Hawaii at Hilo finished 7th in the 13-team tournament hosted by St. Edward's University on the Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
 
"Everybody started poorly," said UHH Head Coach Jim DeMello. "The first hole is a lay-up hole and if you hit it left you end up in water. It was a hard way to start.

“We've got five of the top 10 Division I teams,” said UHH Head Coach Earl Tamiya. “We have repeat teams to our tournament every year and have a very long waiting list which makes it great.

Russ Cochran backed up his 10-under 62 yesterday with a 7-under 65 on Saturday and leads defending champion Tom Watson by two strokes after 36 holes of the Champions Tour’s season-opening event. Cochran’s two-round total of 17-under 127 matches the tournament record set by Don Pooley (63-64) in 2006. Results and groupings for round three.
