The revised preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) for Hawai‘i County will be released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and available for public comment during open houses on August 9 and 10.

Results of the Kona and Puna Flood Studies are not included in the preliminary digital flood insurance rate maps for Hawai‘i County.

Fire/rescue units responded to a 9:27 p.m. alarm Sunday night (July 10) to Kawainui Stream near Old Mamalahoa Highway in Pepeekeo for a 43 year-old man who may have been swept away in a flash flood.

Witnesses reported to authorities that the man was last seen in the stream when a flash flood occurred.
