At 9:40 p.m. weather radar indicated very heavy rain affecting coastal   eeward Kohala between Mahukona and Kawaihae with rainfall with rates up to three inches per hour likely leading to flash flooding and ponding on roadways. Meanwhile heavy rain and thunderstorms over the Kona Coast and slopes has eased but Hawaii Island police report significant flooding impacts continue especially near Honaunau where water and debris are on roadways.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept 1).

At 5:30 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain nin miles south of Volcano, the airea of rain was nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Pahala, Volcano and Mountain View.

At 5:18 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain seven miles southeast of h]Hawi, or about 39 miles north of Kailua-Kona. Civil Defense reported Kohala Mountain Road was closed due to water covering the road at mile marker nine and a half. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

At 5 a.m. weather radar showed heavy rain over North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and East Ka‘u districts. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Pepeekeo Papaikou, Paauilo, Ookala, Laupahoehoe, Honomu and Hakalau.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 11:15 p.m. this evening (Feb 21).

At 8:01 p.m. weather radar showed numerous showers moving across the Hilo and Puna districts. Rain gages at Hilo International Airport and Pahoa were measuring rates of 1-2 inches per hour. Additional showers will likely affect the same areas for the remainder of the evening.
