Fireworks permits to be available on Wednesday (Dec 26)

The Hawai‘i Fire Department announces that fireworks permits will be available for purchase beginning Wednesday, December 26, at the following locations for the upcoming New Year’s celebration. Permits are not required for the purchasing of novelties and paperless firecrackers. Fireworks are allowed 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Search for missing fisherman off South Point continues

Fire/rescue crews along with a Coast Guard cutter and aircraft continued their search Sunday morning (June 3) for a fisherman swept into the ocean at South Point in Ka‘u Saturday. The man was hit by a wave while retrieving a fish net Saturday and was last seen 200 yeards off-shore by witnesses.
