The loss of Waiopae is extremely significant. The East Rift Zone Eruption event is keeping two State parks closed and a forest reserve closed and is adding new acreage to what is now State unencumbered land.

Two Hilo residents cited by DOCARE officers for being in lava evacuation area

DOCARE reports 32-year old Alexander White and 41-year old Ruth Moss were cited in the closed area at the bottom of Highway 137 near MacKenzie State Recreation Area. They were with two children and were observed walking along the shoreline at Coconut Grove on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

DLNR allows cinder harvesting from site once used to gather simulated Martian soil

Recent volcanic eruptions on the Big Island have forced the sole source of black cinder to vacate its harvesting plant, jeopardizing the island’s tropical floral business, a major economic industry in East Hawaiʻi. DLNR closes Malama Ki Forest Reserve due to lava flow in it

The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife has closed the Malama Kī Forest Reserve on Hawai‘i island due to lava now flowing into it. Today maps showed one of three separate lava flows heading to the ocean with one going through the forest reserve.
