The firefighting operations on the Kealakekua Mauka Brush fire in the Kona area were continued today. Personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department, Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate, and Forest Solutions continue to extinguish hot spots and flare-ups within the fire area.

The perimeter remains secure and the fire break has been widened to provide additional safety and as a precaution with the possible increase in winds forecasted for this week.

The conditions at the Kealakekua Mauka Brush fire in the Kona area continue to improve with the efforts focused on maintaining the perimeter and extinguishing hot spots and occasional flare-ups. In addition to the mop up operations, 2 bull dozers were widening sections of the fire breaks as a precaution with the forecasted wind and weather changes expected over the next several days.

Fire fighting operations on the Kealakekua mauka brush fire in Kona were continued today. Presently the burning is limited to hot spots and smoldering logs and trees. Very little active fire activity has been reported and operations are limited to wetting down those hot spots and mopping up of the area.
