The fire conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and limited to smoldering fires well within the fire breaks and perimeter.

Crews are maintaining twenty-four hour operations and monitoring the situation to insure all potential fire hazards are addressed and any changes are communicated to keep the public informed.

Kelakekua mauka fire update for Wednesday (Jan 27)

The fire conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and limited to smoldering fires well within the fire breaks and perimeter. Crews are maintaining twenty-four hour operations and monitoring the situation to insure all potential fire hazards are addressed and any changes are communicated to keep the public informed.

Very little change has been reported over the past 24 hours on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area. Fire crews were on scene throughout last night and continued with mop up operations today. All burning and smoldering hot spots continue to remain well within the fire area. Some of these hot spots are estimated to be approximately one-quarter mile from the perimeter and in areas difficult to access.

Today's brush fire operations on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire operations continue to be focused on extinguishing hot spots and flare ups. Personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department, Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate and Forest Solutions were on scene and conducting those operations. Resources on scene today included 3 brush trucks and 4 all terrain vehicles. Conditions continue to improve and progress is being made with the mop up operations.
