Hawaiʻi Island police report that the wanted person in connection with a counterfeit investigation in Pāhoa was located on, (November 15), at 1:15 p.m., in Keaʻau.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police ask anyone having information on the case to call officer Kimo Veincentof the Puna Police at (808) 965-2716, or the police non-emergency

Police trying to ID suspect in counterfeit money case

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking the public for help in identifying the person whose image was captured on surveillance cameras in connection with passing counterfeit money at a Hilo store. On May 27, a man in his mid-40s purchased items from a Hilo Store using counterfeit money. The incident was captured on video surveillance cameras.

Hawaiʻi Island police are warning the public about a spike in counterfeit cases in the Hilo and Puna districts.

In May, police investigated 23 counterfeit cases in those districts compared with seven cases in April and two cases in January through March. Stores and restaurants have received counterfeit bills in $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 denominations.

Police warn public about phoney $50 bills used in Hilo and Puna

Hawaiʻi Island police are warning the public about a rash of counterfeit $50 bills being distributed in the Hilo and Puna areas. A man reported Wednesday (January 14) that several vendors at farmers markets in Hilo and Puna had received the counterfeit bills. Police also received reports from other businesses in both districts.
