The Kaulana Manu Nature Trail (formerly known as Kipuka 21) will be closed beginning March 2, 2019, for construction of restroom and parking facilities. The construction is expected to be completed by September, with the trail reopening soon after.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency is providing a basic emergency response training course in Ka‘u at the Discovery Harbour Community Center starting Sunday, March 24, 2019. This Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training Course provides participants with classroom and hands-on instruction on what to do in an emergency or disaster.

The Finance Department reports that Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License Services are not available in Waimea and at the West Hawaii Civic Center until further notice due to severed cables by falling trees. Services are available in Hilo and Pahoa. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we restore services.

The County of Hawaiʻi was recently notified by Hawaiian Earth Recycling, LLC, that the supply of mulch has been depleted at the East Hawaiʻi Organics Facility in Hilo. Mechanical loading of mulch will not be available from Friday, February 8 through Wednesday, February 13, at the East Hawaiʻi Organics Facility.

In the interest of reducing long lines, Hawai‘i County’s Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division offices will introduce a self-service kiosk at the Hilo Safeway store for customers to renew their Hawaii County vehicle registrations. The grand opening of the kiosk will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 10 a.m.
