Hawaiʻi Island police have identified remains found last month in the Wailuku River as those of a woman who was last seen swimming near that area last year.

The remains were found in a tide pool of the Wailuku River on February 14.

Dental comparison determined that the remains were those of 62-year-old Jolee Reiswig of Kailua-Kona. Reiswig was last seen in Hilo in the early evening hours on September 14, 2015. She had been swimming with a companion in a location known as Boiling Pots.

Rescue crews spent a second day Tuesday (Sept 15) at Wailuku River Boiling Pots State Park in search of a missing swimmer.

The 62-year-old woman was last seen at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Sept 14) in the upper pond area of the Boiling Pots floating on an inflatable tube. The woman fell off and was unable to make it to the river bank.

Puna man apparently drowns at Boiling Pots Thursday (Feb 5)

A Puna man apparently drowned Thursday (February 5) at Boiling Pots in Hilo. In response to a 5:13 p.m. call, police responded to Boiling Pots, where Fire Department rescue personnel located a submerged man, who was unresponsive, and attempted unsuccessfully to revive him.

A man hiking near one of the waterfalls at Boiling Pots slipped and fell off a trail onto rocks seriously injuring himself Tuesday afternoon (March 1).

Fire/rescue units were called on scene via 911 at 2 p.m. and used the fire department's Chopper One to locate and airlift the victim via a long line from the fall area to a medic unit in the parking lot. The man suffered possible head and leg injuries in the fall and was transported to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition.
