Police arrest Pahoa man for arson in Hawaiian Beaches structure fire

A 45-year-old Pāhoa man is in police custody following a domestic dispute in Pāhoa Sunday night (December 2). Around 4:15 a.m. Monday (December 3), police arrested Peter Lopes for second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree arson, third-degree assault and first-degree promoting a detrimental drug.

Police open burglary and arson investigations in Shipman Industrial Park fire Wednesday (May 30)

Fire crews responded to a 5:18 a.m. alarm Wednesday (May 30) to Shipman Industrial Park for a fire at the Reliance Water Tanks warehouse on Kipimauna Street. Investigation by police found that burglars cut a front gate chain and stole a truck and machinery.

Big Island police have initiated an arson investigation in connection with a fire at a Puna beach park early Monday morning.

Sometime between 1:15 a.m. and 1:27 a.m. unknown persons set fire to three portable toilets at Ahalanui Beach Park in Kāpoho, rendering them unusable. Fire Department personnel extinguished the flames. Damages were estimated at $3,100.

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman wanted for questioning in connection with a fire in a trash receptacle attached to an automated teller machine on September 8.

The fire caused minor damage to the ATM, located in Puainako Town Center, before Fire Department personnel arrived to extinguish the flames.

The case has been classified as arson.

Hawaiʻi County police are asking for information about a burglary and attempted arson in Puna. The crimes occurred at a home on Ohia Street in the Eden Roc subdivision sometime between Saturday (October 22) and Sunday (October 23). 

Investigation revealed that one or more unknown suspects pried open the front door, took electronic items from inside and then attempted to burn the house. The structure sustained damage to the front stair.  A vehicle in the garage also was damaged.

Big Island police arrested a 31-year-old Papaikou man for first degree arson last night (August 23) stemming from an investigation into the cause of a large brush fire in the Pohakuloa area.

Christopher M. Pratt was located in close proximity to the fire upon firefighters' initial arrival to combat the fire and was taken to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment. He was taken into police custody following his release from the medical center.
