A California man has died from injuries sustained when he fell off his bicycle.

On July 14, Kona patrol officers responded to a 1:18 a.m. report of a crashing sound on the 75-6100 block of Alii Drive and found a man lying next to a bicycle.

The Hawai'i Police Department advises the public that Alii Drive, between Palani Road and Sarona Road, was closed today from 8:30 am to 1:39 pm. Road repairs are expected to be completed today, March 16, 2011.

Public Works crews are working today on the clearing of Alii Drive.  Police will close the area between King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel and Sarona Road (in the vicinity of Hulihee Palace) until approximately 5:00 p.m.
 
“We are asking for the public’s assistance so that we can expedite the clean-up of the sea wall and pier areas,” said Mayor Billy Kenoi.  “We thank the public for their understanding.”

Kailua Village Business Improvement District has scheduled dates for the remainder of 2010 for meetings of the Local Byway Committee regarding the nomination of Alii Drive as a Hawaii Scenic Byway. All meetings are open to the public and unless otherwise advised, will be held at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.
