HPU erased a two-run fifth inning deficit to win its first NCAA Division II Softball College World Series title. The Sea Warriors plated four runs in the fifth inning to hold on to beat Valdosta State, 4-3, in the title game.

It took perfect execution to end the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s 2010 season as the Vulcans fell 2-1 in eight innings to Central Washington University in an NCAA Division II West Regional Championship game on Howard A. Okita Field in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

The Vulcans season ends at 35-16 while the Wildcats improved to 38-14.

Campbell earned the state softball title in Division I, with a 5-1 win against Punahou. Mililani squeaked past Castle for third place. In DIvision II, Pac-5 hung on in the seventh inning to win its third state crown in five years, edging Waimea 5-4. Kalani topped Waialua for third place.

Earning second-team recognition are centerfielder Sierra Green and third-baseman Amanda Tellez.

Konawaena wins BIIF Division II softball title

The Konawaena Wildcats defeated the Kamehameha-Hawaii Warriors 10-7 in the BIIF softball Division II championship game Saturday (May 1). Wildcat pitcher Chelsey Shimamoto took the win while Warrior’s pitcher Kiani Wong took the loss despite striking out 12 batters.

Amber Waracka was one out away from a perfect game as the University of Hawaii at Hilo completed a series sweep of Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Pacific West Conference competition in Laie, Oahu.

The 7-0 and 4-0 victories are the end of the Vulcans regular season. They finish with a 35-14 overall record and 23-9 record in the PacWest. The Seasiders are 4-34 and 4-26.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo recorded a pair of shutout victories over Pacific West Conference rival Brigham Young University-Hawaii, 6-0 and 8-0, on the BYUH Laie Campus.

The Vulcans improve to 33-14 overall and 21-9 in the PacWest while the Seasiders are 4-32 overall and 4-24 in the PacWest.
