Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers honors police and presecutors​ with awards

Ten Police Officers and two Deputy Prosecutors were honored this week by Mothers Against Drunk Driving HawaiÊ»i, co-sponsored by Servco Pacific/Big Island Toyota for their efforts and dedication last year in the fight against drunk and drugged driving and efforts to reduce injuries and deaths on big island roadways caused by impaired drivers. 

On Tuesday, (May 7), five West Hawaiʻi Officers and Deputy Prosecutor Britt Bailey were honored at a luncheon at Umekes Fish Market Bar and Grill in Kailua-Kona. The officers are Kona Patrol Officer Dayson Taniguchi for 31 DUI arrests, Kona Patrol Officer Len Hamakado for 25 DUI arrests, Kona Patrol Officer Jason Miyashiro for 24 DUI arrests, Kona Patrol Officer Adam Hanes for 22 DUI arrests and Kona Patrol Officer Johnathan Rapoza for 19 DUI arrests.

On Wednesday, (May 8), five East Hawaiʻi Officers and Deputy Prosecutor Winston Albright were honored at a luncheon at Hilo Yacht Club. The officers are Hilo Patrol Officer Keith Nacis for 77 DUI arrests, TEU Officer Erhard Autrata for 50 DUI arrests, South Hilo Patrol Officer Lawrence Kobayashi for 24 DUI arrests, Puna Patrol Officer Wyatt Kaili-Leong for 16 DUI arrests. Major Samuel Jelsma received the MADD Lifetime Achievement with an excess of 500 DUI arrests throughout a 28-year career.
