Early morning fire burns home in Puna Saturday (April 20)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 4:39 a.m. alarm on Saturday (April 20) to 15-2711 Opakapaka Street in Puna for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a vacant, single-story home about 75% engulfed in flames with flames coming out of the front windows and live electrical lines arcing with sparks showering the front of the house.

Crews checked the house for occupants, found none and had the blaze under control by 5:23 a.m. with the fire declared out at 5:56 a.m.

There were no injuries reported in the blaze. The loss is estimated to be $56,250 with $18,750 saved. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
