By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:47 p.m. alarm Tuesday (March 26) to 94-5755 Au Moku Place in Discovery Harbor subdivision in Ka‘u for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a 1,475-foot-square home with fire quickly spreading and flames coming from half of the house with the roof collapsed in that area. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 3:29 p.m. and it declared out at 4:35 p.m.

Fire Dispatch noted the prompt arrival of the area volunteer firefighting company was instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading to a neighboring home just 20-feet away, and downwind from the fire. That neighboring 1,712 square-foot home did suffer some superficial damage from the fire.

The loss in the fire was estimated to be $221,250 with about $256,800 worth of property saved by firefighters. There were no injuries reported as all of the occupants escaped. The cause of the blaze is under investigation
