Autopsy results in for suspect suicide while in police cell

An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday morning, (September 12), on Thomas Lional Woods. Preliminary results indicate that Woods died at the North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital, due to asphyxiation stemming from a self-inflicted injury while being held within a temporary cell at the South Kohala Police Station.

Flood advisories extended for Hawaii Island Thursday (Sept 13)

At 12:31 p.m., radar and rain gages showed moderate to heavy rainfall continuing across the eastern slopes of the Big Island. Rainfall has also spread into the Ka‘u District as far as Naalehu. The highest rain rates were about one inch per hour. This rainfall is expected to continue into the afternoon.
