Dept of Human Services Kailua-Kona office temporarily closes

The Department of Human Services (DHS) has temporarily closed its North Kona Benefit, Employment and Support Services Division Processing Center. This office processes applications for financial assistance and SNAP. It also houses First-to-Work and Child Care Licensing offices.

College of Pharmacy at UH Hilo to receive $300K for rat lungworm research

The House Finance and Senate Ways and Means conference committees announced today the release of $300,000 in recurring funding to the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo for programs, studies, and activities related to the prevention and eradication of rat lungworm disease.

Overflows from the perched lava pond within west pit, a small crater adjacent to the main Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō crater on Kīlauea Volcano’s East Rift Zone, continue to build up the levees around the pond. The rising level of the perched lava pond during the past month is a sign of the increasing pressure within the magma system beneath Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō.
