HOVE Deepwell failure prompts water spigot limits for users

This is a Department of Water Supply (DWS) Deepwell breakdown message for Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2017 at 3 p.m.

At this time, the HOVE Deepwell in Ocean View, Kaʻū is down. Troubleshooting is being done to further analyze the problem, determine the needed repairs, and develop an estimated repair timeline. DWS is monitoring consumption and tank levels.

Due to this breakdown, the following are in effect:

  • The drinking water spigots remain open for community access. While water spigots remain open for general community access, users are asked to limit their consumption to potable needs only. Your cooperation extends current water availability in the reservoir.
  • The standpipe facility for water haulers is closed until repairs can be completed. Water haulers will be able to access standpipe facilities in Nāʻālehu for their water hauling needs.

Again, the HOVE Deepwell in Ocean View, Kaʻū is down. The drinking water spigot station remains open for community access. The standpipe facility is now closed to water haulers. Troubleshooting the repair continues. Updated information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
